“Voluntourism”

I am thankful that I have been part of Thomson Reuters Manila because the company really promotes volunteerism (including a one day paid volunteer leave a year). “Voluntourism”. It is indeed more fun at Thomson Reuters. Here are just a few examples of my volunteer work, featured on my personal blog.

Thomson Reuters Volunteer for the Community Day

Every year since 2010, as Thomson Reuters celebrates its anniversary of the merger of Thomson Financial and Reuters Media, the company conducts a site wide volunteer activity to several beneficiaries. With the Thomson Reuters Volunteer for the Community Day, many areas are flooded with people wearing orange shirts either cleaning the surrounding, painting school buildings and houses, playing with sick kids. After doing community service the entire morning, the volunteers gather together for a culminating lunch and program. Since this started, I have been an active participant and I hope that for the coming years I won’t miss this yearly event.

Year 3, CHILD Haus

I was thankful that I selected CHILD Haus as my beneficiary for the 3rd TR Volunteer for the Community Day that was held on April 21, 2012. I, together with 22 other colleagues, spent a few hours with the kids at this center. We enjoyed doing art and craft activities with them.

CHILD (Center for Health Improvement and Life Development) Haus provides free temporary board and lodging to  indigent patients from the different provinces who have cancer or other dreaded diseases and have no place to stay in Metro Manila while undergoing medical treatment.

For more details about this activity as well as other volunteer activities that I have attended and for some travel information about the Philippines, please visit my personal blog.
