Global airplane manufacturer Airbus announced this week that they are opening a brand new factory in Mobile, Alabama, hoping to add 1,000 jobs to the area while taking a significant chunk of rival Boeing’s market. The factory should be open by 2016, and in addition to the 1K permanent jobs, Airbus believes they can add another 5,000 peripheral jobs, ranging from construction to suppliers. Coming in the wake of the most recent manufacturing report, which was marked by shrinkage, Airbus hopes to reverse that trend in the coming years. Read more about the plant in this Reuters article.
