Happy 5th Anniversary to Global Editorial Operations, India
On April 16, 2007, our Intellectual Property & Science Editorial Operations in Chennai and Hyderabad, India began with just 70 employees (35 at each location). The initial plan was to grow the operations to a total of 500 employees (250 at each location).
In the 1,825 days it took to reach the 5th anniversary of operations, however, the number of employees has grown to more than 1,100 – a rate of two new employees every three days.
The Editorial employees provide high quality, timely content that supports to our Scientific & Scholarly Research (SSR), Life Sciences (LS) and Intellectual Property Solutions (IPS) business units by capturing data from journals, books, conference proceedings, press releases and patents. They create content for our customer solutions (i.e. Web of Science, Derwent World Patent Index (DWPI), and a host of other products). This information includes analyzing and providing value-add from raw data relating to research and development including drug pipeline; sources referenced in journal articles; and manual coding and deep indexing of patents.
“The initial plan was for the operation in India to manage 12 different editorial processes for the three businesses. Now, we manage over 60 processes. Our editorial managers regularly get client feedback either through product development or through collaboration with our partners in London, Barcelona, Philadelphia and elsewhere, or when customers visit our site. We use the valuable feedback to improve our services, ultimately enabling us to better meet customers’ requirements. Our focus is on ensuring that we have continuous input from the voice of the customer” said Prakash Sethumadhavan, Vice President of India Operations, Global Editorial Operations for IP & Science.
He attributes the rapid growth and success of the operations to the caliber of employees in India and the support and collaborative spirit from their counterparts in London, Barcelona, and Philadelphia without whose unstinting support they could not have achieved as much.
“We take care of our people because they are our greatest assets. We always support them to understand the customer needs and enable & empower them to consistently meet the customer expectations,” said Viji Krishnan Global Head of Editorial Operations for IP & Science
“It is clear we are able to attract world-class talent in our operations centers. This talent will be ready to grow and flow into the GGO business when the need arises. This will result in shorter turnaround time while serving our customers,” said Shanker Ramamurthy Global Growth & Operations President.
“Every time I visit our operations in India, I am continually impressed by the commitment and dedication of our colleagues there. They work and collaborate with such drive and energy. India is fast becoming an important business hub, and we are fortunate to have such a large pool of highly talented professionals with great opportunities on the horizon,” said IP & Science President Christopher Kibarian.
As part of the 5th anniversary celebrations, our operations in India held large celebrations, allowing the employees the opportunities to showcase their talents and celebrate their accomplishments.
